A Homegrown Motor Brand Powering Industrial Malaysia

Founded in 2002 as a specialist in rotating equipment repairs, Great Electric Motor (GEM) began its journey servicing electric motors and genset alternators for industries across Malaysia. Over the years, as GEM encountered the challenges and gaps in the local market, one truth became clear: Malaysia lacked its own electric motor brand with global recognition that could truly rival global names.

That realization led Aaron Tang, a passionate engineering graduate from the University of Malaysia(UTM), to embark on a bigger mission — to create a world-class Malaysian electric motor brand, built not just for local industries, but worthy of global recognition.

With the support of his partner Elffy Cheng, the vision evolved into action. Instead of entering a race with uncertified efficiency motor in unjustified price war, GEM focused on engineering excellence, energy performance, and brand trust — giving Malaysian businesses a homegrown alternative they could finally be proud of.

Today, GEM motors are not just built to perform — they are designed to represent Malaysia’s engineering talent, innovation potential, and industrial independence.
